Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska, foundress of the Felician Sisters, proclaimed the Blessed Virgin Mary, under the title of Our Lady of Częstochowa, as foundress of the community.
Reflecting on the Felician tradition of honoring Our Lady of Częstochowa, ten Felician Sisters from the New Jersey area joined the parishioners at Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Wallington on Friday evening, August 26, for a Mass celebrated to honor the Blessed Mother as well as a concluding procession to her image with all carrying lighted candles.
The Word of God was proclaimed in both Polish and English. The Rev. Marcin Kuperski delivered a stirring homily in Polish and the pastor, the Very Rev. Canon Felix R. Marciniak, spoke in English about the history of the Black Madonna and her care for God’s people.
Sisters in Wallington who joined the faith community include S Marie Victoria Bartkowski, S Lisa Marie DiSabatino, and SM Laverne Cholewa.
Joining the sisters missioned in Wallington for this beautiful event in honor of Our Lady of Częstochowa were SM Alphonse Stachowski, S Antonia Marie Groszkowski, SM Aloysius Morgan, SM Charlotte Wszolek, S Maria Magdalena Vallellanes, S Marlene Marie Sliwka, and SM Virginia Tomasiak.
A wonderful reception, hosted by Father Felix in the rectory for the priests and sisters, followed the Mass. Sister Virginia said, “The only disappointment for the evening was a disruption of electricity because a squirrel chewed a wire! Consequently, this beautiful devotion to Mary was minus the organ, the microphone and the AC!” She added, “Hopefully, all in attendance were able to offer up these inconveniences for those needing our prayers and sacrifices.”
