|Madonna University Represented at Interfaith Leadership Institute|
Students Jaime Kuligowski and Claire Pioch, Faculty Member Veronica Riha and Co-Director of the Center for Catholic Studies and Interfaith Dialogue, S Nancy Marie Jamroz attended the Interfaith Leadership Institute, sponsored by the Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC) from August 5-7 in Chicago, IL.
After the keynote address by Eboo Patel, founder of the IFYC, interactive dialogue exercises, training sessions and planning strategies fostering interfaith dialogue engaged the nearly 300 participants during the weekend.
A highlight of the conference was the participation of the group in the 50th anniversary observance of the Thousand Mile Walk on Saturday morning. Tracing the steps of Martin Luther King and 700 walkers who, in 1966, were met by 5000 Chicago residents throwing bottles and stones, the conference participants heard community leaders express recognition and gratitude to the walkers who called for a stop to redlining and for providing better, affordable housing for people of color.
According to Sister Nancy, the Workshop emphasized means to strategize learnings: to VOICE, ENGAGE, ACT in interfaith work and to realize that moving forward, more is gained by remembering that we are better together.
Opportunities for the Madonna University campus community to engage in interfaith dialogue will be offered throughout the year.
