The official language is Swahili but the sisters teach in an English Speaking school, sponsored by the OFM Conventuals.

Sisters Mary Celestine Giertych, Minister General and Jonatana share their experiences after visiting our sisters there.
“Sister M. Jonatana Pawera and I have just returned from Tanzania on June 5, 2014. We were able to spend a whole week with our sisters who have been missioned there. It has been a truly enriching experience to see how our sisters are working with the Franciscan Conventual Friars in their school, teaching many children. The climate there is very difficult since it is very hot all year and very humid, yet our sisters continue to do wonderful work. Sister M. Anastasia Gicuku Nyaga is teaching religion in a number of classes. Sister Rosemary Wanjuki Njeru is directing the nursery school and Sister M. Milena Pociask is an assistant to a teacher of the youngest children..
We also realized that it is essential for the mission to have another person from Europe or America to be part of the local community so that it would be easier for the two cultures, Western and African, to be better able to understand each other.
All the people of Tanzania that we met are truly wonderful and joyous. It was an exhilarating experience to be part of the Sunday liturgy. The church, beautiful and enormous, was already packed for the 6AM Mass. The Liturgy and various celebrations within it lasted till 8 AM and already there was another group ready to pack the church for the next Mass. The singing and celebration was truly vibrant and alive. We had the opportunity, not only to visit the school where our sisters work but to visit the beautiful cathedral of Dar es Salaam and also to go to the market to buy food.
