The sisters from Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Convent and St. Joseph Care Center in Livonia, MI, gathered in the “Cloister Hallway” to celebrate the feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and to close the month of May with Marian prayers and songs on Saturday, May 31, after supper.
The Prayer Service began with the singing of “On This Day, O Beautiful Mother.” SM Juanita Szymanski led the rosary, reading a short reflection before each Glorious Mystery. Several sisters also participated in the rosary: S Rita Marie Vondra, SM Elaine Machlik, S Anita Louise Marie Taddonio, and S Agatha Mensah (Society of the Infant Jesus).
Upon completion of the rosary, the sisters proceeded outdoors, singing hymns to the Blessed Mother in English and in Polish. In the meantime, SM Angela Parkins, local minister, and S Rosanne Marie Glaza, placed a beautiful pot of flowers before teh statue of Our Lady.
Upon invitation, S Maria Nguyen Thi Nga and Sister Anna Ho Thi Hien, sang a song in their Vietnamese dialect. One verse, translated, reads: “Mary, we devote to you our souls and our minds: all in the past, in the present and in the future. We try to walk in the sight of God. We imitate you because you are our paradigm.”
More beauty followed when the two Ghanaian Sisters, S Agatha Mensah and S Bridget Coffie, sang their Marian hymn in the Sante dialect. One verse translated reads: “Mother Mary is calling her children, to come to her with love, joy, happiness, humility, and patience.”
According to Sister Rita Marie, at the end of this Marian ceremony, “a sense of Marian joy reflected from the sisters’ faces, knowing that, as members of various religious orders, we all possess the great treasure of having the Blessed Virgin Mary as our Mother!”
