The evening began with a limited narration and visual meditation of St. Francis’ death. The reflection reminded those in attendance that all are pilgrims in this world, sent on a special mission, journeying back to God.

Franciscans and tertiaries gathered at Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Convent to commemorate the passing of our Holy Father Francis into eternal life on the evening of October 3.
As the chimes of the wall clock struck 7 p.m., the tolling of the bell by S Rita Marie Vondra penetrated the walls and ceiling of the chapel. The choir and congregation broke into song and SM Josella Cushion carried the lighted paschal candle in procession to the altar.
Readings, reflective silence and hymns continued until the reading where Francis recalled the most holy supper which the Lord celebrated as his last supper with his disciples. Then bread was passed throughout the assembly by SM Carolyn Ratkowski and S Grace Marie del Priore.
All paused in silence while the bell tolled once again, and the candle representing Francis was extinguished, signifying his passing into the arms of Jesus.
The service closed with the sign of peace and veneration of the relic of St. Francis.
