Picture2          A gathering of the youth of Catholic Schools in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, was realized on May 20, 2013, in preparation for the WYD to be realized July, 2013 in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The gathering was held in the Abel School auditorium, capable of receiving the 350 young people who participated.  Sister Terezinha Maria dos Santos, accompanied 47 students of Our Lady of the Assumption School who took part in the gathering.

The high point of the meeting was the receiving of the Pilgrim Cross and the Icon of Our Lady. Each participant had the opportunity to approach and give reverence to the Cross and Icon, which were present during all of the religious activities of the day.

The morning was spent in prayer, praise, and conferences challenging the young people to be a strong presence in the Picture1Church.  The activities were coordinated through members of various Catholic Schools in Niteroi, with the presence of Priests, Sisters and Lay People committed to the cause of youth as well as to the WYD activities of this region. The gathering terminated with a blessing after which each participant received a simple souvenir – a Key Chain with miniature sandals – representing a call to mission, that of bringing with them more young people for the general gathering in July.
