Opposition to Constraint on Religious Freedom in U.S. Grows
The Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally in Detroit, MI, which was one of 143 cities to hold a rally, brought people together in protest of the Obama administration’s requirement that most health care plans include birth control — a provision that violates the teachings of Catholic leaders.
S Rose Marie Kujawa, president of Madonna University, attended the rally in Detroit and addressed the crowd. She expressed a concern about how the mandate would affect the institution she oversees and warned of further encroachment of liberties by the government.
“Our question now is: If our government can withdraw our right to religious liberty, what is the next freedom that can be suspended?” Kujawa said.
